Drugstore Cowboy

Just saw this movie again recently. If you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend it at least for William Burroughs’ appearance. He plays a smooth old priest who has gone by the wayside of becoming a junkie and is now on methadone but still looking for a fix. I sort of forgot about this movie…saw it years ago. Burroughs is so savvy, and his voice hypnotic!

Book recommendation of the day

When I was going to Purdue University in the 1990s, I stumbled upon an interesting book titled Dance of the Coyote, by Bill Hotchkiss. I re-read that book I don’t know how many times, and it influenced an article I wrote with the (at that time) Executive Director of Wildlife Damage Review, Nancy Zierenberg. The article is here. Anyway, funnily I heard from Bill Hotchkiss today about a bibliography. I hope to add his bio to this site. He is sometimes aligned with poets Gary Snyder and Robinson Jeffers and others, and was the literary executor of William Everson, often linked with the beats, as Brother Antoninus, the “Beat Friar.” More to come when we resume conversation after some travel.
